Kristy May Knight was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1965 and lived in the Borderlands of South Texas and then Austin in her teens and twenties. The summers of her early youth were spent on the farm in Potter County, Pennsylvania where her father grew up, and trekking to Canada in the old VW Bus for the yearly hunting and fishing trips with O.A. and Armina, her father's parents, whose self-sufficient and almost Native way of life left a deep impression on her.
She earned a BFA from The University of Texas in 1990 and an MFA from The Rhode Island School of Design in 1996. She was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Connecticut and her work has been exhibited throughout the country. It is part of many important private collections.
She currently lives in Red Hook, Brooklyn with her husband and 2 part-time step-sons.
